Google’s dictionary is whack!

by Vidyut Luther on Jan.07, 2008, under rants

So, I just posted another article, in which I used the word “learnt”. To be sure it was a word, I went to google and typed: define: learnt. I got 0 results. “hmmm, I coulda sworn that was a real word”. So, I went to m-w.com, and sure enough, it is a word, even if it is a british word, it is a word. I grew up in India, so I learnt the Queen’s english, Google didn’t.

I always wondered the different between learned and learnt.
    Common English i guess.

Funny, I found this article while flummoxed by the same distinction. (Perhaps unsurprisingly I too grew up in India, which seems to have held on to the Queen’s English long after the Queen’s own subjects did.)
